WriteTheScope

Insurance-grade estimates for roofing and restoration contractors, from photos and notes.

WriteTheScope turns the photos and notes from a loss into a carrier-ready Scope & Totals PDF in 24 to 48 hours. High quality, minimal scope information required, consistent every time, at the lowest prices in the industry. One flat monthly fee. The first estimate is free.

No card and no sign-in for the first one. Contractors anywhere in the country. Most of the work comes from the storm belts: Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Florida, Louisiana, the Carolinas and the upper Midwest.

What WriteTheScope does

What WriteTheScope does not do. It does not represent the homeowner and does not act as a public adjuster. It does not negotiate with the carrier for you. It does not visit the site; the estimate is written from what you send.

What to expect

Turnaround
24 to 48 hours from the time your photos and notes arrive, depending on your plan. The free first estimate comes back within 48 hours.
What you send
Phone photos of the damage and the surrounding areas. The address. What caused the loss. Measurements if you have them. The adjuster's name and the claim number if there is one. Rough is fine.
What you get back
A Scope & Totals PDF: the scope by area, quantities, unit pricing, totals, and photo references.
Review
A link comes to your email. You read the preview and mark changes. The corrected copy follows. Nothing reaches you that has not been read and signed off by a licensed estimator.
Consistency
Every estimate follows the same structure, the same line language carriers expect, and the same review before release. The tenth one reads like the first.
Ownership
The estimate is yours. Send it, edit it, put your name on it.
Pricing
One flat monthly fee sized to your company, the lowest prices in the industry. It does not change with how many estimates you send. Month to month. Cancel any time.
Capacity
Each plan carries a number of estimates per month. If you run past it, you hear from WriteTheScope before anything changes; nothing is billed by the estimate.

Who writes the estimates

Every estimate is written and signed off by a licensed, certified estimator. The estimating practice is led by Ian Steitz: fifteen years in construction, restoration and insurance claims, and the estimator of record, start to finish, for two restoration companies.

Questions

Can a company send more than one loss?
Yes. The first one is free. After that, pick the plan that fits your volume.
What if the adjuster disagrees with a line?
Send what they sent you. WriteTheScope writes the supplement or the response, and it comes back the same way the estimate did.
Who owns the estimate?
You do. It carries your company name if you want it to, and you send it wherever it needs to go.
Where does WriteTheScope work?
Anywhere in the country. Everything is remote: photos and notes in, the estimate out.
How does a company cancel?
From the portal or by email. It stops at the end of the month you are in. No fee to cancel.
